Redfield Patent fishing floats had a unique spring cap design.
These innovative and nicely finished floats had the distinctive honor of being a part of Bradford and Anthony's display at the 1874 Charitable Mechanic Association Exhibit in Boston Mass.
Bradford & Anthony received a silver medal for their Fishing Tackle display. The display consisted of fine fishing reels, rods, artificial flies and Redfield Floats. The floats portion of this display played an important role in the award of the silver medal. The judges called special attention to the patent adjustable floats which can be attached & detached at will without knotting or tying the line, or removing the bait or hook, while they are readily adjusted to any part of the line where they will remain secure. The device is both simple & inexpensive. The floats are of various forms and sizes, very handsomely finished and a great improvement upon anything before used for this purpose, and must entirely supersede the use of those of foreign manufacture.
