Old Fishing rules

A fisherman's need to measure a fish has been around since at least the first fishing size limit regulations. Tackle Companies and Sporting goods dealers recognized the need for a tool to give the fishermen the ability to accurately measure their catch. They also realized that rulers would be a good advertising opportunity. What once was a good advertising opportunity for tackle makers has now become a good opportunity for collectors. Most old fishing related rulers can be had at a reasonable price.

Here are a couple of cool fishing rulers. The wooden ruler is from Kirks 117 E. Main St. (Town unknown) Indiana. It is curious to me that Kirks features only four of the Big five tackle companies. I wonder why he didn't feature his home state tackle giant from Garrett, Indiana the Creek Chub Bait Company. The second ruler is from J.F. Pepper Rome New York advertising their nets and accessories.

This folding ruler is by Horrocks & Ibbotson,  Utica, N.Y. it's a folding ruler that would be practical for a fisherman to carry easily. It promotes H&I's line of Hexi-Super-Cane rods.
